Point Lonsdale is a small town on the western tip of the ‘heads’ of Port Phillip Bay in Victoria. It is a peaceful sleepy town for most of the year, populated by retirees and the hardy souls who brave the chilly waters of Bass Straits in search of the perfect wave. However, for several months over the summer the population explodes as thousands make the hour and a quarter trip from Melbourne to enjoy its beautiful beaches and rugged coastline.

I’ve been visiting Point Lonsdale for 40 years and have seen it grown from not much more than a corner store and a fish’n’chip shop to the thriving town it is today, steeped in the history of coastal Australia.
